The check that always works is arithmetic. Compare the collector number against the set total printed after the slash: a card numbered past it came out of the slots at the end of the set rather than the run itself. A card reading 303*/298 is one of those. A letter after the number does the same job inside the run: 119a/298 is the alternate print of card 119, not a separate card.
Rarity is not value
The most valuable card we price is Wing Gundam (LR+) from Edition Beta at $9,999, and it is a lr+. How many copies survived and how many people want that card matter far more than what the printer put in the pack.
The number worth knowing per tier is the median, not the record. The highest median here belongs to lr+ at $37.93, so a card picked at random from that tier beats one picked from any other; the lr+ median is $37.93 against that $9,999 at the top. Open any rarity for its full price list.
